Video: Are People Born Gay or Not? by Alan Shlemon

This past weekend I attended an apologetics conference hosted by Mt. Airy Bible Church.  One of the speakers was Alan Shlemon of Stand to Reason.  His talk was entitled, "Homosexuality: Truth and Compassion."  Simply put, Shlemon's talk was the best I've heard from a Christian apologist on the topic and I told him so afterward.

In the video above, Alan answers the question, "Are people born gay?" and also provides some resources for those who want to learn more.

In 2013 Exodus closed down. Its president Alan Chambers said that he did not believe that it was possible to change a person's sexual orientation. He said that he had never met anyone who had successfully changed their sexual orientation. It took years before Alan would even admit he was same-sex attracted. How do you explain the closure of Exodus and Alan Chambers' statements. Also, John Paulk used to claim that his sexual orientation had changed through Jesus. He was on the cover of Newsweek as an ex-gay. He now admits his sexual orientation never changed:

With so many ex-gays now admitting they were not telling the truth, and considering all major Medical and Psychological Associations say there is no evidence its possible to change sexual orientation, how can anyone honestly say they know its possible to change a person's sexual orientation?

Alan suggested that people go to www.ExodusInternational.org. It now redirects to a website by Alan Chambers, the former president, who claims that he does not believe its possible to change a person's sexual orientation.

Hello Anonymous Ones,

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I hesitate to discuss such a potentially personal issue in such an impersonal way; however, if the conversation remains respectful and based upon facts, I welcome it.

You have pointed out that there are some men who once claimed that one's sexual orientation can change and now they no longer believe that. It seems you regard this as persuasive evidence that one's sexual orientation cannot really be changed.

However, there are also men and women who once were gay or homosexual and now are in heterosexual marriages with children and very happy. Do you find this evidence equally persuasive? Interestingly, Alan has addressed this question just this week here.

Now, what interests me even more is your assertion that "all major Medical and Psychological Associations say there is no evidence its possible to change sexual orientation."

Can you support this claim with the relevant data? My research and reading has demonstrated otherwise.
