"Readers who are acquainted with Christian preaching will recognize...the central doctrine of salvation, found in all brands of Christianity-Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism. Christ took upon himself the sins of all humanity, so that all who entrust themselves to God might find forgiveness and mercy. In the death of Christ we see God's own 'love of enemies.' Instead of condemning the undeserving, God has mercy on them through Christ's sacrifice. As the apostle Paul put in twenty-five years after Jesus, 'But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us'" (Rom 5:8).1
