As I have pointed out before, multi-verse theories are often used to explain the fine-tuning of the universe apart from a designer. However, what if a multiverse model proves viable in the future? Would this potential discovery call God's existence into question? Astrophysicist Jeff Zweerink doesn't think so:
"Rather than get stuck on whether we live in a multiverse, I prefer to focus on the more important question: Does the multiverse fit more comfortably in the naturalist's worldview or the Christian's? Upon my first exposure to the multiverse, I thought it was a threat to Christianity. However, further investigation revealed that multiverse research strengthens the case for a beginning and for design-and thus a Beginner and Designer."1
As philosopher Kenneth Samples explains:
"Scripture teaches that God created at least one other realm of existence besides the space-time universe (the angelic realm; Colossians 1:16).2
So, it seems that even if a multiverse model would prove viable, it would do little to call the truth of God's existence into question.
Courage and Godspeed,
Chad
