This week our Hagerstown, MD STR Outpost meeting we will be discussing if there is evidence for the existence of the soul. For those who want to do a deep dive into the topic, I recommend my interview with Eric Hernandez here.
However, if you are new to evidence for the soul, I wanted to recommend this review of arguments for the existence of the soul by J. Warner Wallace.
In this helpful post, he offers a concise philosophical case for the existence of the soul, arguing that the mind cannot be reduced to the brain. Drawing on basic principles of logic, he highlights key differences between physical bodies and our inner mental life—such as the private nature of thoughts, the persistence of personal identity despite constant bodily change, the immeasurability of beliefs and desires, and our experience of moral freedom. Wallace contends that these features are difficult to explain if humans are purely physical beings, but make sense if we are composed of both a body and an immaterial soul, as historic Christianity affirms.
